The victim, a homeless man, was discovered by a pedestrian walking their dog, specifically under the Mil·lenari bridge. The man was lying on the ground covered in blood, and the alert to the 112 emergency service was made around 9 am.
The first responders were the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan Police), followed by an ambulance from the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM). After being stabilized, the victim was initially evacuated to the Hospital Universitari de Tortosa Verge de la Cinta.
The victim is in serious condition but stable, despite the multiple fractures and cerebral hemorrhage that prevent him from giving a statement.
Due to the severity of his injuries — which include bilateral fractures in both legs, fractured tibia and fibula, bilateral orbital fracture, and a cerebral hemorrhage — the man was later transferred to the Hospital Universitari Joan XXIII in Tarragona. Officers have not yet been able to take his statement.
The investigation, opened for violent robbery and serious injuries, led Investigation Unit agents to find an iron bar at the scene. This bar, corresponding to the leg of a street bin, is considered the possible weapon used in the assault. The Mossos do not rule out that the assailants may also be homeless individuals.
