The resignation of Jordan, formalized during the ordinary plenary session in January, responds to the government pact signed between the Movem Tortosa-PSC coalition and Esquerra Republicana, which stipulates that the Republican Mar Lleixà will be invested as mayor starting in January 2026. The investiture plenary session will take place next January 10. The outgoing mayor highlighted the positive balance of his tenure, emphasizing the launch of the first public nurseries and the neighborhood plan, involving a 25 million euro investment.
“"If a resignation is not validly formulated, the mayoral vacancy may not have occurred correctly."
The municipal group Junts per Tortosa has warned that Jordan's resignation could be “legally null and void” because, according to the party, the legally established procedure was not followed. Spokesperson Meritxell Roigé explained that the resignation must be submitted via a written document entered through the Registry and addressed to the Plenary, not by mayoral decree, demanding that “the procedures established by law be respected”.
Separately, the plenary session approved the regulatory framework for the official city chronicler position, an honorary role to be appointed for a five-year term. The appointment of the Doctor of Art History, Jacobo Vidal, as a new member of the advisory board of the Tortosa Museum was also approved.
Finally, the plenary recognized the figure of the writer and librarian Zoraida Burgos i Matheu, who passed away on Sunday. Burgos, recognized with the Creu de Sant Jordi in 2023, is considered one of the most important writers of the post-war generation in Tortosa, known for her social poetry against the dictatorship.
