A total of 58 students from the Biology and Environmental Sciences degrees at the University of Girona (UdG) carried out biodiversity field practices in Begur on September 29th and 30th.

The students, accompanied by five professors from the Faculty of Sciences, used the Espai Mas d’en Pinc as a base for the practical sessions of the Biodiversity Management module.
The activities focused on studying different natural environments within the municipality. At Begur Castle, landscape interpretation and biodiversity threats were addressed. In Sa Riera, marine algae communities were mapped, while terrestrial vegetation was inventoried in coastal habitats. The study concluded with an analysis of insects in the pine forests on the dune.
The Councilor for Environment, Jordi González, highlighted the opportunity that hosting these students presents for showcasing Begur's natural wealth and the importance of its conservation. He emphasized the potential of Espai Mas d’en Pinc as a resource for training and environmental outreach.
González also valued the collaboration with the University of Girona and the support from the municipal technical team for the successful development of the sessions.
