The initiative includes a variety of cultural activities, exhibitions, family workshops, audiovisual screenings, and an open day. The highlight will be the Museum Night, allowing visitors to explore the museum during evening hours and enjoy free activities.
This year's International Museum Day, under the theme “Museums Uniting a Divided World,” emphasizes the role of cultural institutions as spaces for dialogue, social cohesion, and inclusion. This commemoration coincides with the eightieth anniversary of the International Council of Museums.
The program will begin on Friday, May 15, with the screening of “4 Museum Pieces,” a selection of audiovisuals exploring the industrial and cultural heritage of the region. These pieces will include works dedicated to cork, the artist Modest Cuixart, and various municipal heritage elements.
On Saturday, May 16, the museum will inaugurate the exhibition “Cork and Future: Designing Possibilities,” organized in collaboration with the Catalan Cork Institute. This exhibition will explore new applications and innovative uses of this material.
Additionally, Saturday's events will feature the family workshop “Discover Cuixart,” a sensory painting activity inspired by the temporary exhibition dedicated to Modest Cuixart. The workshop will combine a guided tour with an artistic experience connected to nature and the painter's creative universe.
Throughout the afternoon and until midnight, the Cork Museum will host an open day with free access to all its exhibition and immersive spaces.
The Museum Night will conclude with the audiovisual concert “The Last Waltz – 50 Years. Homage to The Band,” performed by Lluís Figueras & The Demons. This free event, with limited capacity, will blend live music, photography, and audiovisual projections.
