The new waste collection service for businesses in Palamós, effective October 1st, introduces door-to-door collection for residual waste, in addition to existing streams for organic, packaging, glass, and paper/cardboard. This initiative aims to simplify waste separation and promote a more sustainable model.
A revised collection schedule has been established, differentiating between the low season (October to May) and the medium and high seasons (June to September). Textile waste collection will be daily year-round. A key innovation is the nighttime collection for most waste fractions, starting at 10 PM, with glass collection occurring during the day to minimize noise.
New containers will be equipped with electronic readers to record usage data for each business. This history will enable the future implementation of a pay-as-you-throw system. All this information will be accessible via a mobile app for businesses and service managers.
The Town Hall has informed businesses through a letter and organized informational meetings on September 9th and 10th at the Municipal Library. Starting September 14th, environmental educators will visit establishments to provide information and necessary materials.
This change is part of the comprehensive new street cleaning, beach cleaning, and waste collection service launched in July under the brand «Més Blau». The updated model includes increased staffing, new machinery, and technology, aiming to enhance public space cleanliness and boost selective collection rates, in line with national and European regulations.
