Following the fire in Les Gavarres, the risk of forest fires remains high in the region and throughout the country. This situation comes after a recent episode of simultaneous fires that affected various Catalan locations such as Santmenat (Vallès Occidental), Artesa de Segre (Segrià), Aiguamúrcia (Alt Camp), Carme (Anoia), Navarcles (Bages), Vielha e Mijaran (Vall d’Aran), and Gavà (Baix Llobregat).
In response to this situation, the Agents Rurals (Rural Agents) have activated Plan Alfa in several Catalan municipalities. Specifically, in Baix Empordà, there are currently 35 municipalities at risk level 1 and one municipality at level 0.
Plan Alfa is the operational protocol of the Agents Rurals designed to organize surveillance and prevention tasks against the risk of forest fires throughout the territory. This system is active year-round, with daily updates on the danger level.
The risk scale has five levels, ranging from 0 (low risk) to 4 (extreme danger). The activation is determined on a municipality-by-municipality basis, aiming to adapt preventive measures and enhance the protection of both the population and the natural environment.
