The Medalla del Montgrí, the municipality's highest civic honor, was exceptionally granted to Dolors Bassa in 2018. This distinction recognizes individuals or groups linked to Torroella de Montgrí who have made significant contributions to local life.
The Municipal Plenary approved the award on July 5, 2018, highlighting Bassa's career as a local councilwoman and her active involvement in the political, educational, and social life of the town before taking on responsibilities in the Generalitat Government.
The award ceremony took place on August 24, during the Sant Genís Major Festival, at the Auditori Teatre Espai Ter, attended by the President of the Catalan Parliament, Roger Torrent. The recognition was framed within the political context experienced by Dolors Bassa, who was in pre-trial detention in Alcalá Meco following the judicial case against independence leaders.
The City Council linked the award to her career and her situation as a former councilwoman and minister. Shortly after the Plenary's decision, the mayor of Torroella de Montgrí visited Dolors Bassa in prison to personally inform her of the medal's award.
Dolors Bassa has a direct connection to Torroella de Montgrí: she is a resident, a former teacher, trade unionist, and councilwoman. The Medalla del Montgrí recognized this link to local public life. In 2018, the award's format was modified to grant a single distinction, focusing attention on Bassa and the political moment she was experiencing.
The event at the Espai Ter, while part of the Major Festival, had a distinct institutional tone, expressing support for a councilwoman who was imprisoned.
