The Firefighters (Bombers) and the Mossos d'Esquadra launched a search operation in Palau-Sator (Baix Empordà) since 7:35 a.m. on Tuesday, January 20, to locate a man swept away by a swollen stream in his vehicle.

The alert to the 112 emergency phone was received at 7:35 a.m., after the victim called a relative to report that the stream's water, which had risen due to the storm, was carrying him away with his vehicle. The relative then alerted emergency services, indicating the man had been dragged away on Molí street in Palau-Sator.
Five units of the Firefighters, including the underwater unit, and Mossos d'Esquadra personnel are participating in the search for the missing person. This incident is part of an intense rainfall episode that has generated 622 accumulated alerts, 153 of which were in the Girona region.

"It is not the first time this has happened. When it rains, the water comes down suddenly, the river is not capable of swallowing it, and it overflows many times through the city center."

The hydrological situation in the area is critical, as the Daró river, passing through La Bisbal d'Empordà, and the Onyar river, in Girona, have exceeded the danger threshold. The flow of the Daró in La Bisbal reached 496 m³ per second, and the Onyar is approaching 300 m³ per second in Girona, while precipitation continues in the region.
The mayor of La Bisbal d'Empordà, Òscar Aparicio, warned of the danger of the Daró overflowing and confirmed that some streets are being closed. He urged residents to exercise extreme caution and avoid approaching rivers and streams.
