The town will become the epicenter of giant culture for the 30th anniversary of Pitu and Lluna, the municipality's giants, and their capgrossos (big-heads). The gathering, part of the Festa Petita de Sant Martí, is expected to be one of the most massive events the town has hosted, featuring activities for all ages.
The celebration will include groups from various Catalan regions, as well as from the Basque Country, Aragon, the Valencian Community, and Northern Catalonia. This diversity of origins will transform the streets of Palafrugell into a grand stage for popular culture.
The Palafrugell Giants Group highlights that this will be the most massive giants gathering in Catalonia that weekend, reviving the format of the large celebrations of the nineties, the decade when the current Palafrugell giants were first introduced. The organization anticipates a large public turnout to enjoy the artistic and cultural richness of the giant world.
The commemoration celebrates the thirtieth anniversary of the current giants and capgrossos, built in 1996 by the workshop Ventura & Hosta of Navata and christened during that year's Festa Major. Pitu and Lluna represent a shepherd and a mermaid inspired by the legend of the Empordà's origin.
The municipality's first giants date back to 1986, created by Josep Puig, and the current figures continue this tradition. The celebration follows the recent revival of the Giants Group.
