The Palafrugell City Council has joined the celebration of World Heart Day, which takes place on September 29th, by illuminating the facade of Can Bech with red light. This action is part of the Move for the Heart campaign, promoted by the CorAvant Foundation, with the aim of raising public awareness about the importance of adopting healthy lifestyle habits for cardiovascular health.
The initiative seeks to encourage small daily changes that positively impact heart health, emphasizing awareness of risk factors and the implementation of habit changes.
In Catalonia, cardiovascular diseases affect a significant portion of the population, with two out of every ten people under 45 and more than half of those between 45 and 64 presenting some risk factor. These disorders of the heart and blood vessels can be caused by various factors.
While some risk factors such as age or family history cannot be controlled, others are modifiable through habit changes, helping to prevent or reduce the risk of cardiovascular episodes.

Recommended measures include quitting smoking, seeking help from primary care centers, or calling 061. It is also suggested to follow a balanced and heart-healthy diet, and to consult nutrition specialists.
The campaign also highlights the importance of daily exercise, advising to speak with a medical professional to determine the most suitable activity. Emotional well-being is another fundamental pillar, and people are invited to inquire about local activities.
Finally, the CorAvant Foundation recommends periodic medical check-ups and following indicated treatments to prevent complications.

The initiative also counts on the collaboration of hospitals such as the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, the Hospital Vall d’Hebron, the Hospital Sant Joan de Reus, and the Hospital Verge de la Cinta de Tortosa.
