The Breast Unit at Palamós Hospital, active for over 30 years, works transversally and multidisciplinarily to treat breast pathology, coinciding with World Breast Cancer Day.

The Breast Unit at Palamós Hospital, operational for over three decades, is a functional, transversal, and multidisciplinary unit dedicated to the coordinated care of breast pathology. The team comprises professionals from Diagnostic Imaging, Pathological Anatomy, gynecology, surgery, and rehabilitation, including the role of a case management nurse. The unit also collaborates closely with the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), Oncolliga, and the Spanish Association Against Cancer, as well as support groups like Nordic walking or Tango and Mama groups.
The unit's main resources include the Breast Cancer Screening Program, aimed at asymptomatic patients aged 50 to 69, and Rapid Diagnosis for suspected cases referred from primary care or external consultations. Weekly, the breast committee meets to analyze cases and coordinate care protocols.
Annually in Baix Empordà, over a hundred cases of breast cancer are detected, with a high cure rate and an 80% survival rate at 10 years. Last Thursday, on the occasion of World Breast Cancer Day, about seventy people participated in a conference on the benefits of psychocorporal work in oncological patients, such as Tango and Mama.
