The Generalitat Firefighters (Bombers) and the Mossos d'Esquadra launched a search operation in Palau-sator (Baix Empordà) to find a man swept away by a stream while inside his car on Tuesday, January 20.

The alert was received around 7:35 AM when the victim himself managed to contact a relative, informing them that the floodwaters, which had risen significantly due to the heavy rain, were carrying him away in his vehicle. The incident began near the Carrer del Molí.
The relative immediately notified the 112 emergency line, leading to the mobilization of several emergency units. The Bombers activated their GRAE underwater rescue team, while the Mossos d'Esquadra deployed their specialized Aquatic Unit to search the affected area.
By nine in the morning, the search operation was fully underway. The heavy rainfall has severely impacted the region, with the Firefighters handling over 120 open incidents across the Girona Region related to flooding and storm damage.
