The Castellví de Rosanes town council has approved an institutional declaration for World Mental Health Day, celebrated on October 10th. The text, which received unanimous support from all municipal groups in the September ordinary session, also includes a request to the Barcelona Provincial Council for the municipality to join the inter-municipal mental health network.
The councilor responsible for the Health area, Anna Gil, read the proposal in full. It reaffirms the City Council's commitment to promoting mental health and emotional well-being, defending people's rights, and building a healthier, more inclusive, and cohesive community. The declaration emphasizes that mental health is an essential dimension of health and quality of life.
The document also recognizes the promotion of mental health as a shared objective that calls upon all administrations and society. Despite progress, individuals living with mental health problems continue to face stigma, discrimination, and rights violations, hindering their full participation in social, educational, work, and community life.
In light of this situation, the fundamental role of local governments due to their proximity to citizens is highlighted. The declaration uses the Strategic Plan for Mental Health 2024-2027 of the Barcelona Provincial Council as a reference framework, adopting its guiding principles.
During the plenary debate, the spokesperson for Junts per Castellví-CP, Vicky Castellanos Núñez, emphasized the role of town councils as the closest administration and noted that talking about mental health naturally is a form of prevention.
