Installation work for a 97.5-meter-high meteorological tower has recently begun on forest land within the Can Amigó estate, privately owned, in Socies. This provisional infrastructure is part of a project by the Climate Action Area of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB) to assess the implementation of small wind farms in municipalities such as Corbera de Llobregat, El Papiol, and Begues.
The objective is to explore the possibility of achieving a renewable energy production capacity of 19 MW, with the projection that 10% of the generated energy will be allocated to the municipality where the future wind turbines are located. The tower will remain installed for a maximum of two years to collect wind data, determining if the site is suitable for wind energy production. Once the measurement period concludes, the tower will be dismantled, and the affected land will be restored.
The cost of this study phase amounts to 100,000 euros, financed equally by the AMB and the Generalitat de Catalunya. The installation has generated concern among the residents of Socies, particularly due to its proximity to natural spaces considered essential for preservation and the potential environmental impact of the infrastructure. The land preparation works have received the necessary authorizations from the Department of Agriculture of the Generalitat.
In response to these concerns, the City Council will promote an informational meeting with the project's technical managers to explain the characteristics, clarify doubts, and listen to the concerns of those affected. The Council emphasizes that any renewable energy initiative must be compatible with the preservation of the natural environment and residential surroundings, ensuring information and dialogue.
