The figure of 1.4 million affected passengers stems from indirect costs and material unavailability, which until November 30 amounted to a total expenditure of 6.7 million euros. This amount includes the cleaning of 58,000 square meters of surface area and the costs associated with immobilizing trains, which in extreme cases totaled 654 days out of service.
“"This type of vandalism affects us all because it has a social cost involving train cancellations, delays, or discomfort when traveling."
Despite the high cost, Renfe recorded a reduction of between 25 and 30% in vandalism incidents compared to the previous year, totaling 887 acts. The company attributes this improvement to reinforced security at "critical" points such as Montcada Bifurcació, Estació de França, and l’Hospitalet stations, with a total security investment exceeding 20 million euros.
“"We want to convey a message of zero tolerance regarding graffiti."
The General Director of Transport and Mobility of the Generalitat, Susi López, attended the visit to the Cornellà de Llobregat base and described graffiti as a "first-order" problem. López expressed confidence in the Government's proposal to toughen sanctions, which could reach up to 90,000 euros, to minimize the impact of this "scourge".
