Next Wednesday, October 14, the institutional event for the awareness and health campaign "My pharmacy, my health. All against stroke" will take place in El Prat de Llobregat. This initiative, driven by the College of Pharmacists of Barcelona (COFB), the pharmaceutical company Sandoz, and the Ictus Foundation, with the collaboration of OMRON and the support of the El Prat de Llobregat City Council, aims to raise public awareness about stroke prevention and early detection.
Attendees can tour the mobile unit installed in Plaça de Catalunya. This unit features five service stations where volunteer community pharmacists will conduct free health checks. These include blood pressure and pulse measurements, anthropometric assessments (weight, height, abdominal perimeter), and determination of lipid profile and blood glucose. Using this data, along with primary care physicians and neurologists, individualized vascular risk will be assessed using the SCORE2 index.
The goal is to provide personalized medical and pharmaceutical advice. If altered values are detected, residents will be directly referred to their Primary Care Center (CAP) or reference hospital, the Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge.
In addition to the screenings, a press briefing will be held with the presence of Marina García Vargas, Councilor for Public Health of the El Prat de Llobregat City Council; Jordi Casas, president of the COFB; Jaime Ponsa, Retail Head Sandoz Iberia; Sonia de Juan, Marketing & Customer Care Manager at Sandoz Iberia; and Esther Duarte, director of the Ictus Foundation.
El Prat de Llobregat is the third stop for this mobile unit, which will tour five municipalities in the province of Barcelona with six stops between September and October. Citizens can visit the unit on October 14 and 15, during morning hours (10 am to 2 pm) and afternoon hours (4 pm to 6:30 pm).
As a new feature this year, the initiative includes doctors from the municipality's primary care centers and neurologists to collaborate with pharmacists in the early detection of stroke and the monitoring of individuals at vascular risk.
