The Guardia Urbana of Cornellà is commemorating its centenary this year, with a program of activities extending until October, aiming to honor the officers who have been part of the force and explain the service they provide to the community.

The establishment of the municipal police force dates back to a resolution from the town council meeting on August 10, 1926, during the mayorship of Baudili Cortada i Carbonell. Service began on September 1st of the same year, with the incorporation of a sergeant and an officer, in addition to the municipal bailiff. Since its inception, the Guardia Urbana has grown significantly, from the initial two officers to the current force of over 120 agents, and has occupied various headquarters, being located since 1987 in the old farmhouse of Can Gaia.
The commemorative program includes various activities throughout the year. On Sunday, May 17th, a Proximity and Security Exhibition will be held at Ctra. Esplugues/Pl. Iglesia, featuring displays of vehicles and equipment from the Guardia Urbana, Mossos d'Esquadra, Guardia Civil, and Policía Nacional, as well as demonstrations by the canine unit and drones. Additionally, family activities and a presentation of the centenary program to local entities will take place at the Anselm Clavé school.
The central institutional event, titled 'Cien años a tu lado' (A Hundred Years by Your Side), will be held on Sunday, October 7th, at the Auditori de Cornellà. Finally, on Sunday, October 18th, the Guardia Urbana Centenary Race, part of the Ciudad de Cornellà popular race, will take place at the Estadi Municipal Pilar Pons. Furthermore, a second Proximity and Security Exhibition will be held on Avenida de Sant Ildefons.
