The Hospital SJD Sant Boi held a commemorative event to raise awareness of perinatal loss and support families, coinciding with the International Day of Perinatal Grief. Families and professionals shared testimonies to make this often-silenced grief visible.

The Hospital SJD Sant Boi held an emotional commemorative event yesterday to highlight the loss of babies during pregnancy, childbirth, or shortly after, as part of the International Day of Perinatal Grief. The event brought together around seventy family members and professionals to share experiences and give visibility to so-called 'invisible maternities'.
The ceremony, held in front of the tree of remembrance, included testimonies from a mother and father who lost their babies. These accounts underscored the lack of social empathy and understanding towards such losses. "The more we talk about these babies, whom we have loved and lost, the more they will be accepted in our society," remarked Miquel Aguiló, Mario's father.
Clara Garcia, coordinator of the maternal-infant process, explained that the event offers "a safe space for families who want to share with us their experience, their grief, and how they have navigated life after leaving the hospital, returning to their lives without that life project, without their baby".
For a decade, the Hospital SJD Sant Boi has been working to improve perinatal grief support. Professionals in the maternal-infant area receive ongoing training to assist families in these difficult times, recognizing that "every grief is different, and so is each family's experience," according to Garcia. The hospital has also established the Mare Lluna Garden and the tree of remembrance, where families can leave a butterfly as a memento.
