The campaign, which is being rolled out in stages, prioritized residents in care homes, individuals over 80 years old, pregnant women, children, and healthcare and social care personnel in its first phase. To book an appointment, individuals can visit citasalut.gencat.cat, use the "Cita Prèvia" option on La Meva Salut, or go directly to their corresponding CAP.
The main objective is to protect the most vulnerable groups and minimize the virus's impact on at-risk populations, as a coinfection of flu and SARS-CoV-2 can double the mortality risk.
Vaccination against the flu is particularly recommended for individuals aged 60 and over, those with pre-existing health conditions considered at risk (such as diabetes, morbid obesity, kidney or liver disease, anemias, hemophilia, immunosuppression, severe neuromuscular diseases, cancer, celiac disease, cochlear implants or awaiting them, cerebrospinal fluid fistulas, chronic inflammatory diseases, and cognitive disorders).
This also includes healthcare and social care workers, home caregivers for at-risk individuals, pharmacy staff, geriatric care institution employees, and those living with individuals with at-risk health conditions. Infants between 6 months and 2 years with a history of prematurity (born before 32 weeks of gestation) should also be vaccinated.
The ideal period for vaccination is during the autumn months, although vaccines can be received throughout the season until March. The protective effect of the vaccine lasts for one year.
