The Baix Llobregat Nord Linguistic Normalization Center is launching a new edition of the Language Volunteering program in Brians 1 and Brians 2 prisons, aiming to strengthen Catalan oral practice.

With the start of the 2026-2027 academic year, the Baix Llobregat Nord Linguistic Normalization Center (CPNL) has initiated a new phase of the Language Volunteering program within the Brians 1 and Brians 2 correctional facilities. This initiative is supported by the adult education centers CFPA Artur Martorell and CFA Víctor Català, responsible for Catalan language instruction within these institutions.
Six volunteers will join the learning communities at both centers, providing support for Catalan conversation activities. Their involvement is crucial for fostering oral language practice in a close and communicative setting, thereby complementing classroom learning.
The primary goal of these sessions is to offer inmates more opportunities for expression, improve their fluency, and build confidence in using Catalan. This experience aims to strengthen ties with the social environment and promote Catalan as a tool for integration.
The participation of external volunteers also aids social inclusion, facilitating inmates' future reintegration into community and work life. The Language Volunteering program, promoted by the CPNL, encourages the social use of Catalan through conversation and interpersonal relationships, creating spaces that foster learning and social cohesion.
