The Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB) has approved the project to transform the Pla de les Vinyes island in Santa Coloma de Cervelló, creating a new leisure space and climate refuge, and improving the dog recreation area.

The Metropolitan Council of the AMB approved in September the project that will allow the creation of a new leisure space and climate refuge in front of the Escola Pla de les Vinyes. Additionally, the current dog recreation area will be relocated and improved, situated behind the cemetery.
The approximate investment will be five hundred thousand euros, financed by the Environmental Sustainability Plan (PSA) and the Territorial Cohesion Action Program (PACTE) of the AMB. The plan is to tender and award the works in the coming months so that construction can begin in the second quarter of 2027.
The new dog recreation area will be larger than the current one and integrated into the natural environment. It will feature two distinct zones based on animal size, independent access, shaded areas, benches, and water points. This relocation will free up the small wooded area in front of the school and provide a space better suited to the needs of users and their animals.
The wooded area will be transformed into a new leisure, stay, and climate refuge space, intended as a meeting point for the Escola Pla de les Vinyes and the students' families, but also open to the entire neighborhood and future elderly residents in the planned endowment housing on the island. Vegetation and shaded areas will be reinforced, new paths and rest areas will be incorporated, and play with natural elements will be prioritized, also improving accessibility.
The project has incorporated input from two citizen participation processes held in the years 2024 and 2025.
