The new council, which will meet monthly, will be composed of students in their 5th and 6th year of primary school, and 1st and 2nd year of secondary school. The CLIA will act as a consultative and deliberative body, addressing issues such as sports, culture, parks, the environment, and leisure. Their contributions will be directly forwarded to the Mayor's office and the governing team to be considered in municipal decisions.
The City Council has issued a call for applications for students who live in Santa Coloma de Cervelló but attend schools in other municipalities. To apply, interested individuals must prepare a brief written statement or message including their name, age, grade, reasons for wanting to join the CLIA, and ideas for improving Santa Coloma de Cervelló. Applications can be sent via email to scc.educacio@santacolomadecervello.cat or scc.joventut@santacolomadecervello.cat, or submitted in person at the Can Carletes youth center before November 9th. Family authorization must also be attached.
The selection of representatives studying outside the municipality will be made through a public lottery, ensuring gender parity and proportional representation of different grade levels.
This initiative continues the experience of the previous Children's Council, active between 2015 and 2016 and part of the Children's Participation Network of the Barcelona Provincial Council. The expansion to include adolescence aims to enrich municipal debates with new perspectives, recognizing children and adolescents as citizens of today capable of transforming their environment.
