The El Vendrell City Council and residents of Coma-ruga have reached an agreement to reopen the Riuet estuary, putting an end to the controversy surrounding the renaturalization works.

The understanding between the council, led by Mayor Kenneth Martínez, and a residents' representation, with Councillor for Beaches Marta Tobella present, was sealed this Friday. The aim is to resolve the dispute that arose from the execution of the Riuet's reform and renaturalization project.
According to municipal sources, the works are proceeding. The final agreement includes the reopening of the estuary with a project that must be agreed upon by the council and the residents. This proposal will subsequently require validation from the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Coastal Service of the Department of Territory of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
The execution of the Riuet project had generated discontent among some citizens, who had staged several protests and collected signatures against the closure of the estuary.

"It is important to listen to the concerns of the citizens and to build together the necessary modifications to have a better El Vendrell. This is a necessary project to preserve the Riuet of the future, and with this agreement, we preserve the identity of the Riuet of the present."
