Cunit debuts the first CAT water tank with total energy autonomy

The new infrastructure incorporates photovoltaic panels to guarantee supply without relying on the external power grid.

The Consorci d'Aigües de Tarragona has launched its first regulatory tank in Cunit capable of operating completely autonomously thanks to its own photovoltaic installation.

The infrastructure, located at a high point in the municipality, features 364 solar panels generating up to 200 kWp. This power allows both the tank equipment and the electrochlorination system to operate without the need for external energy input.
The project involved a total investment of over 5.6 million euros, jointly funded by the Consorci d'Aigües de Tarragona and the Agència Catalana de l'Aigua. Additionally, the photovoltaic installation cost 253,000 euros, with a portion covered by European NextGenerationEU funds.

With a capacity of 25,000 m³, the new tank strengthens supply security along the coastal stretch between Roda de Berà and the Baix Penedès. This facility is the 47th in the CAT network and will ensure service in the area for an entire day in the event of an incident.
