Agents from the Investigation Unit of the El Vendrell police station carried out the arrest this Wednesday. The investigated incidents date back to last December and March, when an unknown individual accessed several properties in the Baronia de Mar urbanization, located between Calafell and Bellvei, in the Baix Penedès region. These acts caused alarm among residents, as they involved significant material damage and, in most cases, the victims were elderly individuals.
The investigation focused on a neighbor after he was seen handling several containers that could hold the 1,600 liters of heating oil stolen from a house he entered on three occasions between December 22nd and January 22nd. The fuel, valued at approximately 7,000 euros, was used by its owners for heating their homes, causing severe hardship to the victims.
Investigators determined that a single person was responsible for six burglaries, although it is being considered that he may have committed more with the same modus operandi. The thief would enter the properties, cause damage, ransack the premises, and steal various objects of value. On February 6th, the police tracked one of the two stolen laptops, which eventually changed hands, leading to a 39-year-old man being investigated for receiving stolen goods.
Subsequent police work concluded that the thief was selling some of the stolen items. Coinciding with his arrest this Wednesday, a judicial search was conducted at the suspect's home, which was being used to store the stolen property. Based on this search and other evidence, the police have attributed six incidents to him and continue to investigate his potential involvement in other robberies in the same urbanization.
