The Government has highlighted the results of its housing and urban policy, which has allowed for a reduction in rental prices in Catalonia, with the inauguration of a development of 110 affordable rental homes in Calafell.

The housing and urban policy of the Government is yielding results, according to statements made last Friday during the inauguration of a new development of 110 affordable rental homes in Calafell. The objective is to regulate and intervene in the market to ensure that residents of Catalonia have access to decent housing.

"We regulate, we intervene in the market, to guarantee that those people who live and work in Catalonia can have access to decent housing."

Salvador Illa · President of the Generalitat
At the same event, it was announced that the next four calls for the Neighborhood and Villages Plan of Catalonia will benefit over one million people and will allow for the transformation of approximately one hundred neighborhoods across the country. This initiative is part of the 50,000 Homes Plan, of which the new development in Calafell is an example.
The first call for the Neighborhood Plan has already benefited over 250,000 people, and Calafell is one of the twenty selected municipalities. Specifically, the reform project for the Cal Bolavà neighborhood, in the town center, will receive an investment of 20.5 million euros, of which 12.3 million will be contributed by the Government.

"What they won't be able to say is that we stood idly by waiting."

Salvador Illa · President of the Generalitat
The construction of the 110 social rental homes in the Sant Andreu neighborhood of Calafell involved an investment of 14.6 million euros, with 3.2 million coming from European funds and an 11 million loan from the Catalan Institute of Finance (ICF). The project was executed between May 2024 and February of this year.
The development, which is expected to welcome its first tenants in July, consists of two and three-bedroom homes distributed in two three-story buildings, with a communal garden area. The homes are described as high quality, comfortable, sustainable, and well-located.

"Handing over the keys is one of the most transformative things there is, along with the regularization of people without papers. You change a person's life."

Salvador Illa · President of the Generalitat
During the visit, about ten members of the educational community, wearing yellow shirts and carrying banners, took advantage of the president's presence to voice their demands as he left the event.
