Firefighters had to respond to Terra Alta street in Coma-ruga to extinguish flames in several garbage containers. The fire had spread to two cars parked on the public road.
This is not the first time similar incidents have occurred in the area. Approximately a month ago, firefighters had to intervene in a container fire in the same vicinity. More recently, another fire in a row of containers in the Tancat area also affected a parked vehicle.
The succession of these incidents has caused concern among residents, who fear the fires may be intentional. Although other hypotheses, such as embers being thrown into the containers, are not ruled out, the repetition of events suggests they could be deliberate.
Some residents link these acts to possible protests against the new waste collection systems with smart containers, which have generated some rejection among a segment of the population. Saturday's fire was extinguished at 3:46 AM and, apart from the two cars and containers affected, no damage occurred to nearby properties or building facades.
