After residents of the Costa Cunit urbanization reported difficulties opening hydrants during recent fires that necessitated confinement or evacuation of some homes, the council has conducted a system review. According to the Town Council, the hydrants are functioning correctly and the network maintains its usual pressure.
The council explains that the hydrants have a safety valve that remains closed to prevent vandalism or misuse. This valve is only operated by emergency services when needed. Images shared by residents showing no water flow were due to the valve being closed; once activated, the flow and pressure are as provided by the water network.
The Town Council also stated that it conducts regular inspections of the hydrants to ensure their operability. Residents, meanwhile, have requested a review of all hydrants in Cunit's urbanizations, many surrounded by forest, to guarantee their activation during fire emergencies.
