Catalan hockey will feature a new division starting from the 2027/28 season. The Catalan Skating Federation has confirmed the establishment of the Nacional Catalana Plata, which will be positioned between the Nacional Catalana and Primera Catalana leagues. This new category will have a single group of 16 teams and will serve as a link between the two existing divisions.
The introduction of the Nacional Catalana Plata will bring changes to the promotion and relegation system for the current 2026/27 season, which begins in September. The two champions of Primera Catalana will be promoted to Nacional Catalana, along with the two winners of the traditional play-off.
The six play-off losers and the teams relegated from Nacional Catalana will move to the new Nacional Catalana Plata. Teams finishing between 7th and 9th place in both Primera Catalana groups will also join this new division.
This reorganisation opens up new opportunities for teams from the Penedès region playing in Primera Catalana. Clubs such as Patí Monjos, Calafell B, Vendrell B, Vilafranca B, the debuting Torrelavit, or Riudebitlles will have realistic chances of being promoted to the Nacional Catalana Plata. Torrelavit, having achieved two consecutive promotions, could aim to secure a third.
The restructuring of the competitive landscape in Catalan hockey, combined with the elimination of geographical criteria for team grouping, creates new prospects for more clubs to compete in higher categories.
