The alarm was raised late Monday afternoon when thick smoke was seen coming from the dwelling in the historic center of the town. Several fire crews rushed to the scene and had to use a ladder vehicle to access and extinguish the flames, which started for reasons yet to be determined.
The affected property is known as Cal Morgades, an old estate dating back to the 17th century. Despite its historical significance, the building was declared a Local Cultural Heritage Site (BCIL) but had been abandoned for years, lacking basic utilities like electricity or water.
Authorities are now investigating the causes of the fire, not ruling out the possibility that someone may have intentionally started a fire inside the abandoned property.
Neighbors had previously reported the house as problematic due to its derelict state. Fortunately, no injuries or affected persons were reported as a result of the incident.
