The competition will bring together twenty teams composed of players with intellectual disabilities, affiliated with professional basketball clubs from the ACB. The season's presentation was held today in Barcelona with the participation of institutional representatives, clubs, and athletes.
The 3rd Deputy Mayor, Rosa del Amo, and the Councillor for Sport of the Badalona City Council have shown municipal support for this initiative that promotes inclusion, equal opportunities, and the values of sport. The Copa Campeones emphasizes integration and companionship through basketball.
After Badalona, the competition will have stops in Zaragoza (March) and a third venue yet to be determined (May). The choice of Badalona reinforces its role as a benchmark for basketball and the organization of major sporting events, adding this inclusive competition to events like the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa Endesa.
Deputy Mayor Rosa del Amo highlighted that “Badalona is a city that strongly supports sport and its values. We are now taking a further step by hosting a competition that brings basketball closer and enables everyone to participate, because sport must be a tool for inclusion, participation, and social cohesion.”
Last year, the first edition of the Copa Campeones was held in Valencia, Manresa, and Bilbao. This year, in addition to the usual 18 teams, Granada and Gran Canaria will join.
