The joint motion supports the request of the Progrés Neighborhood Association, which considers the planned action in Sagunt, Güell i Ferrer, and Príncep de Bergara streets insufficient to resolve the structural problems of the area.
The planned action focuses exclusively on the roadway, ignoring the deteriorated state of the sidewalks and the serious accessibility problems.
The Progrés neighborhood suffers from a historical lack of investment, especially in its eastern zone, where many streets have not been modernized since the middle of the last century. This has resulted in narrow and degraded sidewalks that hinder the mobility of the elderly and people with reduced mobility.
The neighborhood association argues that a project of this magnitude should drive comprehensive urban renewal, noting that in October 2024 they presented the Progrés Neighborhood Pacification Project, backed by over 4,000 signatures, which prioritizes pedestrians.
The opposition groups emphasize that current accessibility regulations mandate administrations to eliminate architectural barriers in new public works. Therefore, they advocate for stopping the current project and reformulating it with neighborhood participation, incorporating the debate into participation forums like the District Council and the Mobility Council.
