The Casa Convalescència at the UAB in Barcelona will host the tenth edition of the On-Board Payload Data Compression Workshop (OBPDC 2026) from October 12-14, an international congress focused on data compression for space missions.

The event, organized by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the French National Centre for Space Studies (CNES), with the collaboration of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), will address the challenges of processing and reducing data generated by current satellites and instruments.
The opening ceremony will feature Xavier Luri, director of the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC). The congress will bring together specialists from the space sector, including researchers like Joan Serra from IEEC at UAB, leader of the project “Compression Technologies for Commercial Satellites“, and Ignasi Ribas from IEEC at the Institute of Space Sciences (ICE-CSIC), who will present the PhotSat mission.
Over three days, traditional compression techniques and new solutions based on artificial intelligence, deep learning, and high-performance hardware will be explored. OBPDC 2026 is consolidating itself as a key forum for evaluating accumulated experience and defining data management for future space missions.
