From the Monasteries of Tibet to Your Mobile: The Silent Revolution of Tibetan Yoga

From the Himalayas to Your Mobile

De los monasterios del Tíbet a tu móvil: la revolución silenciosa del yoga tibetano

For centuries, accessing Tibetan yoga teachings required long journeys and years of dedication with a master. Today, practices like Lu Jong reach people of all ages through new forms of transmission that maintain human contact and the tradition's rigor. A reflection on how ancient wisdom finds its place in the contemporary world.

There was a time when accessing certain Tibetan yoga teachings meant undertaking long journeys, overcoming countless difficulties, and finding a master willing to impart knowledge that for centuries remained exclusive to a select few. Today, a person can join a live class from their home, office, or even a senior living facility. What once required traversing mountains now fits in the palm of one's hand.  At first glance, Tibetan yoga and technology seem to belong to opposite worlds. One is born from silence, observation, and direct experience; the other advances at the speed of constant innovation. Yet, we live in a society that has never been so connected and, at the same time, so in need of calm. Perhaps this is why these ancient teachings are finding a relevance today that few would have imagined just a few decades ago.
Tibetan yogas are part of a millennia-old tradition linked to Tibetan medicine, a science that views the human being as an inseparable unit of body, energy, and mind. Among these practices, Lu Jong stands out, a discipline based on conscious movements, breathing, and the theory of the five elements. Its purpose is not merely to improve physical condition but to restore the body's natural balance and foster a clearer, more stable mind.
Much of the expansion of these teachings in the West has been possible thanks to the vision of Tulku Lobsang Rinpoche. Trained in Buddhist traditions and Tibetan medicine, he has dedicated his life to making this ancestral knowledge accessible to contemporary society without compromising its essence. His ability to translate millennia-old wisdom into a language understandable to today's world has allowed thousands of people to discover invaluable tools for their well-being.
As a disciple of Tulku Lobsang Rinpoche and after more than twenty-five years professionally dedicated to teaching yoga, I have witnessed a recurring reality. More and more people are seeking resources to manage stress, improve sleep quality, alleviate physical tension, increase vitality, or simply regain a kinder relationship with themselves.
I have seen individuals with chronic pain regain mobility, students learn to manage anxiety better, professionals under immense pressure find spaces of serenity, and seniors discover new ways to stay active and connected with their bodies. In a world that seems to demand constant availability, practices like Lu Jong remind us of the importance of returning to ourselves.
Furthermore, one of the great strengths of this method is its accessibility. It can be practiced by people of various ages and physical conditions. There are chair adaptations that allow individuals with reduced mobility or seniors to benefit from its effects. It is not a practice reserved for a select few; it is a tool designed to accompany people wherever they are.
Precisely this conviction led me to create AB YOGA CENTER by Alicia Beltrán and, more recently, to develop a mobile application to bring these teachings closer to anyone, regardless of their place of residence or personal circumstances.
However, there was something I was unwilling to lose along the way: living transmission. For centuries, knowledge has been shared through direct interaction between master and student. Therefore, the app does not simply offer recorded videos. Classes are conducted live, allowing for the interaction, guidance, and personalized attention that are an essential part of traditional teaching.
Technology changes. Tools evolve. Societal needs also change. But something remains unaltered: the human need to find balance, health, and meaning.
Perhaps the true revolution is not that Tibetan yoga has reached mobile phones. Perhaps the revolution is that wisdom born centuries ago continues to be capable of answering the most urgent questions of our time.
Previously, one had to travel to the Himalayas to find these teachings. Today, the teachings travel to us. And perhaps they have never been more necessary.
You can access all of Alicia's (Lobsang Shershi) activities on her app from your mobile by going to the Apple Store or Play Store. Search for AB YOGA CENTER or access it via her website.
