The Government has convened the 21 Generalitat delegates stationed abroad in Barcelona this week to strengthen the coordination of Catalonia's external action and equip them with the necessary tools to promote and defend the country's interests worldwide.

At the closing of the event, the Minister of European Union and External Action, Jaume Duch, thanked the delegates for their work, urging them to continue collaborating to boost the country's foreign policy. Currently, the Generalitat's external network comprises 21 delegations and is set to expand with new offices in China, Canada, and the Eastern Mediterranean (based in Jordan).
In the coming years, the executive's external action will focus on enhancing Catalonia's influence in Europe, completing the transformation of the delegation network, concentrating efforts on strategic geographical areas, consolidating the Mediterranean as a benchmark space, preparing for the next decade of Catalan cooperation, shifting multilateral presence into influence capacity, and continuing to work towards the official status of Catalan within the European Union.
Throughout the week, delegates participated in various working sessions to align objectives and incorporate sectoral perspectives. The Secretary General of the Department of EU and External Action, Lorena Elvira, the Secretary for European and Multilateral Affairs and Development Cooperation, Agustí Fernández de Losada, and the Director General for Institutional Coordination in External Action, Aiala Ruiz, presented the Government's strategic lines for external action.
Sessions were also held on the Development Cooperation Master Plan, the Government's 2030 Multilateral Strategy, and the delegations' work plans. Additionally, participants attended the presentation of the second season of the documentary series Dones en Lluita (Women in Struggle), a collaboration between the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation and 3Cat, which portrays the fight of women worldwide for human rights.
On an interdepartmental level, delegates met with the Minister of Research and Universities, Núria Montserrat, to learn about the department's external action priorities, and visited the Alba Synchrotron. They also held a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food, Òscar Ordeig, to discuss his department's international strategic lines.
Together with Javier Sánchez Cano, director of the Centre for the Study of Contemporary Issues, they reviewed 2026 projects, notably issue number 65 of the magazine Idees, titled Amazonia: The Last Living Frontier, as well as the main initiatives planned for 2027. Finally, the week included a meeting with the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, at the Palau de la Generalitat.
