The opening of the MediaMarkt electronics megastore at the El Triangle shopping center in Plaça Catalunya, Barcelona, has been delayed until late 2026 or early 2027 due to the complexity of the necessary adaptation works.

Six months after FNAC moved to La Rambla, the majority of the El Triangle facilities remain closed. The operation, driven by the German real estate fund Deka, seeks the center's largest restructuring in three decades, replacing the cultural offering with a focus on a large bazaar.
Initially, the project approved by the city council in late 2023 planned for one large store of 8,320 square meters. However, the original purpose did not materialize, and the division of this macro-space into three different commercial premises is now being processed, alongside the reorganization of lobbies and access points.

The adaptation of the space involves complexity and requires major and minor works, which is why the opening has been significantly delayed.

MediaMarkt, which will be the main tenant, confirmed that its intention to settle in Plaça Catalunya "is moving forward," but the opening date has shifted from next summer to late 2026 or the first part of 2027. The owner, Deka, estimates an investment of six million euros in the interior renovation, while MediaMarkt will invest 7.5 million euros in fitting out its establishment.
This project reformulation is partly due to the failure of an agreement with a previous company that had motivated the initial remodeling proposal. The new plan, initially approved by Mayor Jaume Collboni's government last December, now seeks to adapt the size of the premises to the "current market demands".
