The City Council of Barcelona and TMB are commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Tramvia Blau with a festive event on October 31st and special visits to the iconic transport, declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Asset of Cultural Interest).

The city of Barcelona is celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Tramvia Blau, a key element of the city's historical memory and heritage. To mark this milestone, Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) and the Sarrià – Sant Gervasi district have jointly organized a festive event on Saturday, October 31st. The Tramvia Blau, officially inaugurated on October 29th, 1901, has witnessed the transformation of Tibidabo mountain and will be open for visits during the weekends of October 31st and November 1st, as well as on November 14th and 15th, when its workshop will also be open.
The main celebration will take place on Saturday, October 31st, with a popular chocolate event open to all citizens. Tram number 5 will be exhibited on Avinguda del Tibidabo, between Passeig de Sant Gervasi and Carrer de García-Mariño, for public viewing on Saturday from 11 am to 8 pm and Sunday from 10 am to 8 pm. Additionally, TMB will issue a special commemorative ticket, and throughout November, the Espai Mercè Sala at TMB will host an exhibition on the history of the Tramvia Blau.
The Tramvia Blau is the sole survivor of Barcelona's trams since 1971. It was donated to the city in 1979, and TMB took over its management in 1981. Its historical value received definitive institutional recognition on May 23rd, 2023, when the Generalitat de Catalunya declared it a Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC), along with other elements of Catalan railway heritage, ensuring its protection and preservation.
