“"This Conceptual Public Participation Plan in Catalonia highlights that municipalities, administrations, and citizens actively participate in the deployment of the Hydrogen Backbone Network. Their participation is essential to build a strategic infrastructure key for the decarbonization of industry and transport, which will be a driver of economic development and competitiveness for the Catalan productive fabric, and which will consolidate Catalonia as a neuralgic point on the European energy map with the H2med corridor."

Enagás has launched the public participation plan for the BarMar submarine green hydrogen corridor, which will connect Barcelona and Marseille, aiming to involve citizens and administrations in this strategic project.
Spain aims to consolidate its position as an international hub for green hydrogen production and export, a key commitment to decarbonization. In this context, Catalonia is emerging as an essential node for connection with Europe and an industrial pole for the development of this nascent sector.
Representatives from the Generalitat, including President Salvador Illa and the Minister of Territory, Housing, and Ecological Transition, Sílvia Paneque, met in Barcelona with Enagás management to learn about the progress in the infrastructures that will support this energy transition.
The public participation process for the BarMar project, running from this Friday until July 2, will involve 42 coastal municipalities in Catalonia. Five participatory sessions are scheduled in Barcelona, Malgrat de Mar, Llançà, Palamós, and Roses, in addition to information points that will be activated from May 11 in Barcelona and El Prat de Llobregat.
This 400-kilometer submarine hydrogen pipeline is a fundamental part of the European H2Med corridor, which will connect the Iberian Peninsula with France and Germany for green hydrogen export. Simultaneously, Enagás is also developing a backbone hydrogen transport network in Catalonia, which will span 89 municipalities and connect with the regasification plant in Barcelona, prioritizing its route parallel to the existing natural gas network.
