The biotech company IDP Pharma has announced the enrollment of the first patient in a multicenter phase 1b/2 clinical trial to assess the safety and tolerability of its drug IDP-121 in patients with small cell lung cancer (SCLC).

Based at the Parc Científic de la Universitat de Barcelona (PCB-UB), IDP Pharma is taking a new step in the clinical development of this therapeutic candidate, designed to inhibit the MYC protein, which is key in cancer development. This study, named MYCROCYTIC, will evaluate IDP-121 in combination with standard treatments for SCLC, one of the most aggressive solid tumors.
For the first time, the company is evaluating IDP-121 in a solid tumor, following positive results from previous studies in hematological cancers. The project, supported by the State Research Agency, plans to recruit patients until 2028.
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) accounts for approximately 15% of all lung cancer cases, with a five-year survival rate below 10%. Despite recent therapeutic advances, relapses are frequent, highlighting the need for innovative new therapies.
Dr. Hugo Arasanz Esteban, principal investigator of the study at the Hospital Universitario de Navarra, emphasizes that the trial allows for the evaluation of a new approach targeting MYC in patients with relapsed disease, aiming to determine if MYC inhibition can translate into clinically relevant benefit.
IDP Pharma's Intrametrics™ platform enables the design of drugs against intrinsically disordered proteins like MYC, which were previously considered intractable. This technology opens new therapeutic avenues for patients with unmet medical needs.
