The stand, organized by the Department of Culture through the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (ICEC) and the Catalan Arts brand, along with the Ramon Llull Institute (IRL) and the Barcelona City Council, with the collaboration of the Association of Publishers in Catalan Language, the Catalan Publishers' Association, and the Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics, aims to present a unified image of the sector and provide a business space for professionals.
This year, 40 publishing houses are participating under the Catalan stand, including Alba Editorial, Angle Editorial, Animallibres, Blackie Books, Cossetània Edicions, Edicions Bromera, Edicions de la Universitat de Barcelona, Editorial Base, Grup62, Norma Editorial, Pagès Editors, Raig Verd Editorial, and Tibidabo Edicions, among others. Additionally, up to 20 publishing groups with their own stands, such as Anagrama, Editorial Casals, Edebé Educación, Grup Planeta, Herder Editorial, Penguin Random House, and Tusquets Editores, will also attend the fair. Other Catalan publishers will be present at the stand of the Federation of Publishers' Guilds of Spain.
The ICEC has prepared an informational booklet for international professionals. On October 7, 24 representatives from Catalan publishing houses will visit the fair thanks to an initiative by the Catalan Publishers' Association. The Government Delegation in Germany will host a reception at the stand, attended by delegate Meritxell Marsà, IRL director Anna Guitart, and the president of the Association of Publishers in Catalan Language, Oriol Magrinyà.
The Ramon Llull Institute has arranged over 120 meetings with international publishers to promote the translation of Catalan literature, supported by grant programs for translation, promotion, and publication of illustrated works. In the last five years, more than 1,900 translations of original literary works in Catalan have been published.
The Director of the Literature Area at IRL, Izaskun Arretxe, will participate in the professional session Translating Europe: The ENLit Network and its Support for Literary Translation and Translators, at the Czech Pavilion, to present the work of the ENLit network and opportunities for supporting literary translation.
Four Catalan titles have been selected for the 2026 edition of the international catalog The White Ravens, celebrating its 40th anniversary: Coreografies animals by Núria Solsona (Zahorí Books), Què estan mirant? by Salvador Comelles with illustrations by Gusti (El Cep i la Nansa), El cor del Bosc Negre by Laia Longan with illustrations by Jordi Vila Delclòs (Animallibres), and Érase una vez... los Récords de cuento by Laura Ortega Vesga with illustrations by Anna Aparicio Català (Flamboyant). The Frankfurt Book Fair is a key event for Catalan publishers, attracting over 7,000 companies and serving as the venue for approximately 80% of international copyright agreements. Catalan presence has been growing, considering that Barcelona accounts for over 50% of the Spanish publishing industry's production and revenue.
Over the past 24 years, ICEC and IRL have promoted Catalan literary presence at international events such as the Guadalajara Book Fair, the Festival du Livre de Paris, the Gothenburg Book Fair, the Turin International Book Show, the Bologna Children's Book Fair, the Buenos Aires Book Fair, and the London Book Fair.
