The Barcelona Public Health Agency (ASPB) will inaugurate the exhibition "The ASPB Laboratory: 140 Years Serving Health" on October 14 at its central headquarters in Plaça de Lesseps. The event, starting at 12:00 PM, can be attended in person or followed online.

The exhibition commemorates the 140-year history of the ASPB Laboratory, originating from the Microbiological Laboratory (created in 1886 for disease control like rabies) and the Institute of Food Substances (dedicated to chemical food control).
Throughout its history, the center has been a benchmark in controlling infectious diseases, monitoring food and water quality, and has excelled in scientific advancements and public health research. Since the late sixties, it has also conducted pioneering studies on air pollution in Barcelona.
Currently, the ASPB Laboratory remains a key center for public health, providing analytical support for food and environmental safety surveillance programs, as well as epidemiological surveillance and control programs of the ASPB and the Department of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya. It also offers services to other public administrations and private sector entities.
The opening ceremony will be led by Joan Ramon Villalbí Hereter, manager of the ASPB. Attendance in person requires prior registration via a specific form.
