The Department of Social Rights and Inclusion has launched a tender to allocate nearly 18 million euros over the next three years to improve early intervention for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in Catalonia.

The initiative, co-financed by 40% with European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) funds, aims to strengthen the current network of child development and early intervention centers (CDIAP) that serve children up to six years old. A minimum of 216,271 additional annual care hours are to be contracted, supplementing existing hours and increasing CDIAP attention by 35% in two years.
A key innovation is that the majority of therapeutic interventions, specifically 80%, will take place in the child's natural environment, such as their home, nursery school, or local park. This proximity allows therapies to be adapted to the real routines and needs of each child and family, thereby fostering learning. The remaining 20% will be conducted at the premises of the managing centers.
This strategy will enable the project to launch early next year, following the public tender, without the need for new construction. Interested entities and companies can submit their proposals until October 13th to provide services in various areas of Catalonia, including Barcelona and its metropolitan area, Central Catalonia, Girona, Lleida, Penedès, Tarragona, and Terres de l'Ebre.
CDIAPs will remain the primary point of contact for early intervention, but moderate and severe ASD cases will be referred to specialized teams. These multidisciplinary teams will comprise professionals in psychology, speech therapy, physiotherapy, neuropediatrics, occupational therapy, social work, and social education, along with a coordination figure. They will develop an Individualized Attention Plan (PAI) and work with both the child and the family, offering emotional support and practical tools, and coordinating with professionals in Education, Health, and Social Services to ensure a comprehensive response.
