The President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, participated today in the presentation of the report Vidas Futuras: Un día en 2050, held at the Design Museum Dhub in Barcelona. During the event, Illa called to “set limits on the unbridled power of money, on the unbridled power of greed” and, in his words, “to set limits on speculation”.
The head of the Executive stressed that “the Government stands by vulnerable people regarding housing, and in all matters”. He added that they are “by the side of those who need the protection of public administrations to guarantee a constitutionally recognized right, which is the right to housing”.
The report Vidas Futuras: Un día en 2050, promoted by the National Office for Prospective and Strategy of the Directorate General for the Presidency of the Government of Spain, also featured interventions from the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, and the mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni. Illa thanked Barcelona for being chosen for the presentation, stating that “Catalonia is future, Barcelona is future”. The report aims to analyze changes in life courses and citizen attitudes to anticipate the daily lives of the Spanish population and adapt public policies accordingly.
President Illa highlighted the importance of fostering this reflection, advocating for “continuing to champion progress” and “betting on opportunities with hope in order to write the future in democratic societies”. He warned against those who “only focus on risks”, as this “generates a feeling of anguish and fear, leading to the search for a culprit, who are usually the most vulnerable”. According to Illa, this is the path of those who “look at the certainties of the past with nostalgic approaches, advocating for authoritarian solutions”.
