The Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) and the Barcelona City Council, through Barcelona Activa, have renewed the agreement for the Barcelona-UPF Chair of Local Economic Policy. This collaboration, initiated in 2018, promotes applied research and debate to address the challenges of local economic development. The renewal establishes a new framework for collaboration until 2029, continuing an alliance that aims to bridge academia and public administration to create public policies with a positive impact on citizens.
According to the Commissioner for Economic Promotion, Trade, and Restoration, Nadia Quevedo, the renewal of the chair "reinforces a strategic alliance between the university and public administration that allows us to turn knowledge into better public policies." Quevedo highlighted that, in a context of economic, social, and technological transformations, the chair provides the necessary reflection and evaluation to "anticipate challenges and make decisions that help us build a more prosperous, innovative, inclusive Barcelona that generates opportunities."
In this new phase, the chair will continue to promote research and analysis on key issues for Barcelona's future, such as economic activity promotion, strategic sectors, digitalization, employability, and job quality. The goal is to contribute to a comprehensive, sustainable, and inclusive vision of local development. Furthermore, it will provide scientific and technical support to the Barcelona Agreement for Quality Employment 2021-2030 (ABOQ), offering knowledge and evaluation tools to improve the city's public policies. This collaboration reaffirms the shared commitment to grounding decision-making in evidence and knowledge.
