The Ciutat Vella District launched this Monday, November 2nd, a service with nine mobile recycling points to facilitate selective collection in the neighborhoods of the Gothic and Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera.

These points, staffed by information personnel, will operate from Monday to Saturday and allow the disposal of paper and cardboard, glass, and packaging. The service is intended for residents and small businesses. Exceptionally, organic and residual waste can also be brought by individuals who have difficulty depositing it during the usual evening hours. The goal is to improve waste separation and reduce the presence of abandoned bags on the street.
The initiative is complemented by an increase in containers and an underground container point in Plaça de la Vila de Madrid. The collection systems combine surface containers, pneumatic collection bins, and the new mobile points, adapting to the characteristics of each neighborhood, including Barceloneta, Raval, Gothic, and Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera.
As part of the same improvement plan, since October, each neighborhood has been assigned a single weekly day for the collection of furniture and old belongings. The schedule is: La Barceloneta (Mondays), El Gòtic (Wednesdays), El Raval (Thursdays), and Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera (Fridays). Items should be left in front of the residence between 8 PM and 10 PM, avoiding leaning them against facades.
These services are part of the second phase of the Ciutat Vella Cleanliness and Waste Collection Improvement Plan, which includes 42 projects and 130 specific actions. The plan aims to improve pavement cleaning, daily urine stain cleaning, high-pressure cleaning, cleaning of school environments and playgrounds, waste collection in overnight sleeping areas, container cleaning, summer reinforcement, graffiti removal, and public toilet renovation.
Regarding waste collection, the pickup of abandoned bags has been increased to 4 times a day at identified points, container capacity has been expanded, and all district bins have been renewed. Commercial collection is also extended to several streets. Pilot tests have shown a reduction in abandoned bags by 30% to 42%.
In terms of civility, sanctions for uncivil behavior have been increased, and communication campaigns in various languages have been launched to promote civic conduct. During 2025, over 75,000 m² of graffiti were cleaned, and more than 1,900 inspection actions were carried out for commercial collection.
