Aena will invest 153.4 million euros between 2027 and 2031 to remodel the Terminal 2 (T2) of Barcelona Airport, adapting it to current needs.

The airport operator aims to 'stitch together' the T2's various growth stages and enhance services, although the investment does not plan to increase passenger capacity. According to the airport's director, Eva Valenzuela, the works are comparable to those carried out in 1989.
The renovations, which will minimize disruption to passengers as 35% of users pass through this terminal (around 20 million last year), include updating electromechanical elements, improving the Hold Baggage Screening System (SIEB), remodeling the T2B facade, expanding the waiting area at security checks, and renewing interior and exterior spaces.
The investment is divided into four projects: 10.7 million for electromechanical elements; 20.3 million for the SIEB; 68.1 million for general terminal improvements; and 53.9 million for the integral adaptation of T2, which includes relocating the T2B facade. This latter project is already out to tender and is expected to begin in the coming months.
One of the most visible interventions will be the remodeling of the main T2B facade to simplify its image and enhance natural light, aiming to improve sustainability and space quality.
The relocation of Joan Miró's mural to T1 is also under study. Additionally, the exterior landscaping will be organized with a vegetation axis as a transition to other service areas.
The reopening and integration of module A, currently used only for arrivals, is planned to improve check-in capacity. The car park in front of T2A will also be recovered to facilitate the development of a new, already awarded airport hotel.
Improving intermodality is key, with the complete integration of the Metro stations and the future R-Aeroport line into the terminal complex.
T2, which has grown in stages, will be homogenized with a common thread that 'stitches together' the different parts. The area known as 'la Rambla', the central corridor after security, will be renovated with new ceilings, pavements, LED lighting, and furniture.
