Aliança Catalana (AC) will kick off its campaign for the Barcelona municipal elections next Friday at the Sala Moragues of the Born Centre Cultural, with Jordi Aragonès as the main candidate.

The political party Aliança Catalana (AC) will officially launch its campaign for the Barcelona municipal elections next Friday. The presentation event will take place at the Sala Moragues of the Born Centre Cultural, a venue with strong historical significance for Catalonia. According to party sources, it is highly likely that Jordi Aragonès will be chosen to lead AC's candidacy in the Catalan capital for the first time. Aragonès, a historian and professor, also serves as the Secretary of Studies and Programs within AC.
The decision to opt for an internal profile, considered part of the "family," aligns with the strategy of the party's president, Sílvia Orriols, the mayor of Ripoll. Aragonès is one of Aliança Catalana's founders and is regarded as the party's ideologue. Other names considered for the candidacy included businessman Lluís Areny, AC's Secretary of Communication, and journalist Eduard Berraondo, the party's press chief.
The choice of El Born as the venue for the presentation is deliberate. This site was Barcelona's last stand during the War of Succession, which ended with the capitulation of 1714. The Sala Moragues, with a capacity of 280 people, will host the event, aiming to connect with the country's history. AC currently has approximately 3,000 members across Catalonia.
AC's event is scheduled to counter-program a debate organized by Junts per Barcelona on the same afternoon, where participants in their primaries will present themselves before the membership votes on June 20th and 21st.
The party has been searching for a candidate for months. Previously, an individual had been pre-selected but withdrew due to health reasons. Other names have also been rumored, such as former minister Jaume Giró, publicist Lluís Carrasco, or former Barça president Sandro Rosell, all of whom have either rejected the offer or clarified that discussions were for different roles within the party.
Polls published so far indicate that Aliança Catalana is likely to secure representation in the Barcelona City Council, exceeding the required 5% of votes.
