The renovation will focus on creating a fully accessible children's play area, replacing the current one, and comprehensively improving the space, which had become outdated. The works, with an approximate cost of 1 million euros, are scheduled to begin at the end of the year and conclude in the summer of 2027.
The project includes updating the central play area, incorporating new recreational activities, and increasing vegetation with new trees and shrubs. Accessibility will also be improved by modifying the topography and paving to resolve existing unevenness.
The intervention will enhance the quality of 1,930 m2 of public space, updating facilities and urban furniture. This interior block has been progressively expanded, with a new entrance on Carrer de Sardenya and the construction of the Institut Angeleta Ferrer.
The councilor for the Eixample, Jordi Valls, highlighted the importance of interior blocks as key spaces for improving quality of life, providing green areas, fostering coexistence, and creating social interaction spaces within a dense urban fabric.
This initiative is part of the Program for Proximity and Interior Spaces (PEPI), which aims to improve the quality of public space and dignify urban environments, including disused or overlooked areas.
