This Monday, the trial against 18 pro-independence demonstrators begins in Barcelona for a protest held on June 7, 2018, at the University of Barcelona against an event by Societat Civil Catalana.

The defendants face charges of coercion and crimes against fundamental freedoms, in a judicial process expected to last fifteen days. The protest took place in a context of political tension, during the repressive wave against the independence movement.
In February 2025, the 18 pro-independence activists had their amnesty request denied. This decision was made by the magistrate of criminal court number 19 of Barcelona, after receiving an unfavorable report from the prosecution.

"The Spanish nationalist entity, Mossos, and the prosecution forget that among the shouts, insults, and reproaches, attendees of the event also participated, and that the event, finally, was suspended by orders of the Rectorate's Cabinet. A trial for which no Spanish nationalist will sit on the defendants' bench. Only the pro-independence activists are."

Alerta Solidària · defense entity for the demonstrators
The organization Alerta Solidària, responsible for the defense of the demonstrators, has called for a rally in support of the defendants outside the City of Justice. The 18 accused could be sentenced to two and a half years in prison, a fine of 6,500 euros, a restraining order of 1,000 meters for three years regarding any event by Societat Civil Catalana, and the payment of 726 euros for the rental of the university hall.
