These figures represent more than half of the 50,000 people the council expects to access the measure by June 30. The Deputy Mayor for Social Rights highlighted the success of the municipal initiative from Pavilion 2 of Fira de Montjuïc, the latest space enabled for this purpose.
The intention is for the exhibition venue to gradually take on more functions, allowing the Citizen Service Offices (OAC), which have seen long queues in recent weeks, to resume their usual tasks. As of this Monday, the Fira 'hall' directly issues vulnerability or census registration procedures, eliminating the need for prior appointments at other offices.
Last week, 15,650 tickets were distributed for appointments at the OACs in Plaça Sant Miquel and Monumental, as well as at the space on Miquel Bleach street, 24, and the Service for Immigrants, Emigrants and Refugees (SAIER). The plan is for these centers to cease in-person assistance, with the entire process concentrating at Montjuïc, except for the Monumental OAC, which will remain open on Saturdays to facilitate procedures for those who only have that day available.
Starting this Wednesday, Pavilion 2 of the Fira will also offer vulnerability reports or census registration to Barcelona residents, regardless of whether they are already registered. In these three weeks, 24,200 vulnerability certificates have been issued, and 115,589 registration forms and 54,549 census certificates have been processed. Additionally, 93,000 census forms will be sent to non-EU citizens registered in the city before December 31.
Next steps include reinforcing the exhibition space with legal advice from lawyers from SAIER and the Neighborhood Plan, as well as direct processing management with Red Cross teams. The inclusion of other collaborating entities is also being considered. The City Council, in collaboration with the Generalitat, will promote group sessions to help beneficiaries obtain a digital certificate, enabling them to process their application online.
